Teeth Extractions & Preservations

WoodSprings Dentistry near The Woodlands in Spring, TX, provides teeth extractions and preservations

At WoodSprings Dentistry our main goal is to protect and preserve our patient’s pearly whites, smiles and overall oral health. However, in certain situations, a tooth extraction may be the healthiest, safest and smartest option for a patient, their smile, oral health and overall health.

Why would I need a tooth extraction?

A tooth may need to be extracted for several reasons. Some of the most common reasons are due to decay, cracks, periodontal disease or for orthodontic and cosmetic reasons. At WoodSprings Dentistry near The Woodlands in Spring, our dentists are proud to offer teeth extractions for our patients that have exhausted other treatment options or are in need of having a tooth removed.

Not sure if a tooth extraction is the best option for you? Schedule a consultation with WoodSprings Dentistry, and we would be happy to evaluate your affected tooth, smile and oral health to determine if a dental extraction is right for you.

What is socket preservation?

A socket preservation is a procedure to reduce bone loss after a tooth extraction. After an extraction, the jaw bone has a tendency to become narrow, and lose its original shape because the bone quickly resorbs, resulting in 30-60% loss in bone volume in the first six months. Bone loss can compromise the ability to place a dental implant or its esthetics and functional ability. Socket preservation attempts to prevent bone loss by bone grafting the socket immediately after an extraction.

With this procedure, the gum is retracted, the tooth is removed and a bone graft material (usually a bone substitute) is placed in the tooth socket. It is then covered with a barrier membrane and sutured closed. A follow-up appointment is recommended to remove sutures and check the healing.
